Multi-Purpose Drain Pan with Handles - HAZET 197N-1

Hazet makes good quality drain pans, but the capacity is only 6 liters which is quite small unless you have a really small motor less than 3 liters. Depending on what you drive, this may be too small for many vehicles with decent size/displacement motors. For example, I have an E46 M3 (~5.5 liters), E92 M3 (~8.5 liters), F82 M4 (~6.5 liters), J100 Land Cruiser (~6.8 liters) and 5th Gen 4Runner (~6.2 liters). This oil pan would be too small to do an oil change on any of my vehicles, even on the E46 M3 having 0.5 liters to spare would have the drained oil at the brim and make it too hard to pour into a container to recycle without making a mess on your garage floor. The worst thing would be removing your drain plug and draining your oil only to discover your drain pan is too small for your motors oil capacity, overflowing the oil pan and draining a huge puddle mess of motor oil all over your garage floor. I would highly suggest getting the higher capacity 16 liter 197-2 drain pan if you drive a car with a larger motor over 3 liters. It has over double the capacity, reinforced handle and down spout for easier pouring, and most importantly, is big enough to actually do an oil change on most cars. With both of these drain pans, be careful not to drop the drain plug or washer into the used motor oil, otherwise you'll have to fish it out and make an oily mess of your hands or gloves. I've used some drain pans with a broad mesh catch basket that can hold draining filters and catch dropped drain plugs & washers, but those are usually small capacity drain pans with integrated screw on side caps for transporting. This worked great back in my smaller motor Honda/Acura (1.6-3.2 liter) days when the motors only took 4-5 quarts (3.8-4.7 liters) per oil change. I've been using a cheap Blitz brand 15 quart (14.1 liter) drain pan from Autozone which works, but is cheaply constructed (bottom of oil drain pan dented inward under the weight of the oil diminishing capacity slightly, the center plastic screw plug threads broke, it bows under the weight when filled to around 9 liters (oil change on E92 M3) when you try to pour the used motor oil into containers to transport to Autozone for motor oil recycling. So looking for a replacement large capacity drain pan. While it may be a little pricey, you can't beat Hazet German engineering and quality plus FCP Euro's lifetime replacement guarantee.

Works great! The built in 'spout' makes it easy to pour used oil into a waste oil container. I like that there's a raised boss to allow an old filter to drain out into the pan. The only thing I wish could be different is that the pan would hold a couple of quarts more than it does. It gets pretty full with Volvos that hold 6.5qts of oil in the engine!

It's okay -- I expected it to be a little sturdier, thicker material than it is. I wouldn't do it again, but I am sure I will get a lot of use out of it.
